NWT Water Stewardship Award
The NWT Water Stewardship Award was established by the Government of the Northwest Territories, Department of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with the Indigenous Steering Committee, to recognize and honour outstanding individuals and organizations in the NWT who have made significant contributions that align with the vision of the NWT Water Stewardship Strategy - to ensure NWT waters remain clean, abundant and productive for all time.
On October 29, 2024, two individuals were celebrated as “water champions” for their significant input to water stewardship in the NWT: George D Lennie and Laura Krutko.
-
George D Lennie was nominated by the Inuvik Hunters Trappers Committee Board of Directors for his contribution to water stewardship during his time working with the Water Survey of Canada for over forty years. His knowledge and experience have contributed in many ways to the vision and goals of the NWT Water Stewardship Strategy over the years.
-
We are also celebrating Laura Krutko, who was nominated by the K'ahsho Got'ine Foundation for her invaluable support and mentorship for their Guardians program, as part of her role with the GNWT Community-based Water Quality Monitoring Program.
