Areas of land which drain water through a network of pathways both on and under the surface (via groundwater). As the waters flow downstream, these pathways converge into progressively large streams, rivers, lakes and oceans.
Watersheds exist on different scales and are of varying sizes Watersheds can be sub-units of each other. For example, the Peace River, Slave River, and Peel River are sub-watersheds of the much larger Mackenzie River Basin.
