2016 Water Stewardship Youth Photo Contest Winners

During the fall of 2016, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) invited youth from across the Northwest Territories (NWT) to participate in a Water Stewardship Youth Photo Contest. Youth were encouraged to submit up to two photos and descriptions that captured what water means to them and their community.

ENR received more than 50 spectacular water-themed photos from youth in various communities throughout the NWT!

The photos were displayed at the annual Water Strategy Implementation Workshop that was held in Dettah on November 8-9, 2016. More than 75 water partners from across the NWT and beyond looked at the powerful collection of photos and voted to choose the final contest winners. After a very close vote, two final prize winners were selected.

Congratulations to Deanna O’Reilly of Fort Resolution

and Madison Melnyk of Norman Wells on their winning photos!

The collection of photos will also be featured in the upcoming 2017-2018 Youth Water Stewardship Calendar. Each month of the calendar will showcase a different youth photo and highlight different opportunities for youth to get involved in water stewardship activities and programming in the NWT.
